John 8:12 – “Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on my life before recovery from anorexia. Those days felt like deep darkness.
I often felt like a small boat, tossed about by a raging sea—unanchored, unstable, and utterly without hope.
Storms of shame, fear, confusion, and self-hatred pounded me over and over, threatening to sink me completely.
Maybe you can relate. Your struggle might look different—maybe food or body image aren’t what entangle you—but you still feel lost at sea.
You may find yourself wondering, “How did I get here? Is there any way back?”
Maybe you feel like you’ve drifted too far—or worse, that God has stopped watching.
But here is the truth: God’s light never stops shining.
He is still there.
He hasn’t moved.
He hasn’t dimmed.
He isn’t waiting for you to clean yourself up before you return.
He is shining for you—right now—even if all you can see is the storm.
God sees you.
He loves you.
And He is always offering a way back—a way to repent, return, and find safety in the light of His presence and the shelter of His care. His love for you isn’t based on you. His love doesn’t waver based on your behaviour. He loves you because He is your Creator. He made you on purpose, for a divine purpose!
God Is Your Lighthouse
- He doesn’t chase you down in a panic—He stands firm, steady, and bright.
- Like a lighthouse, God is constant and reliable, no matter how stormy the sea of life becomes.
- His light is not a spotlight of shame, but a beacon of hope.
- You can come just as you are—weather-beaten, weary, confused. He welcomes you.
Isaiah 42:16 – “And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground.”
Your Light Still Has Purpose
If you feel like your light has gone out, remember this:
Even a damaged vessel can still reflect the light of the lighthouse.
God often uses the very places where we’ve been wounded—body image struggles, fear, disordered eating—as places where His grace shines most brightly.
2 Corinthians 4:7 – “But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.”
Prayer
Lord, when I feel lost at sea, remind me that Your light still shines.
Thank You that I don’t have to fix myself before coming to You.
Thank You for being steady when I am not, faithful when I feel weak, and merciful when I feel ashamed.
Help me lift my eyes above the waves and fix them on You.
And when I begin to believe the lies of darkness, lead me back into the light of Your truth.
In Jesus’ name – Amen.
Takeaway
You are never beyond God’s reach. He is stronger than the fiercest storm.
No matter how dark the night or how violent the waves, God’s light still shines.
Let His light guide you home.
Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?”
